Garage and workshop

A garage with a workshop in one steel building. See the price now.

The car goes in. So does the bench, the compressor, the bikes and the half-finished project — and there is still room to walk round. What decides whether that works is not the badge on the building, it is how much floor is left beside the car, whether there is power at the bench, and whether the shell is one you can heat.

Delivered and installed on a standard site. The base is quoted separately.

Garage and workshop

Laying it out: the car bay and the bench run

Every garage in our configurator is 6 m deep, whatever its width, so the decision you are actually making is how much frontage you buy: 4, 5, 6, 7 or 9 metres. A car takes one bay of that; everything left over is bench, racking or floor to work on.

The door width decides how that frontage splits. Sectional door openings run 250 cm (8′2″) – 500 cm (16′5″) (made to measure) per door depending on the size, and the rest of the front elevation is solid wall — which is where a bench or a tool wall goes. A single-door layout gives you one open floor; a two-door layout gives you two separate bays.

If you are still choosing a footprint, our guide to metal garage sizes works through what fits at each width, with the internal dimensions.

Power at the bench

A workshop is only a workshop once there are sockets in it. Move-In Ready Electrical is a paid upgrade chosen in the configurator, and it includes LED lighting — the prices per size are in the table below. It is worth deciding now rather than later: order it with your build — adding it afterwards is possible but means a return visit and additional site work, so it costs more.

A steel shell, or one you can heat

A steel garage is a galvanised shell: dry, secure and uninsulated, which is right for storage and for work you do in short bursts. An insulated build has 100mm PIR panels in the walls and the roof, for a building you can heat and use through the winter. Our steel versus insulated comparison puts the two side by side, and the insulated garage hub shows the same sizes in the insulated range.

Already have a steel building and want it warmer? Our guide to insulating a steel garage covers what can be done after the fact and what it involves.

Locking it up

Every build comes with the automatic sectional door and a separate side entrance door, both lockable, in a bolted galvanised steel structure. Smart Security is a paid add-on if you want alarms and cameras specified with the building rather than retro-fitted around it.

Questions

Before you commit

Can I have sockets and lighting fitted from day one?

Yes — Move-In Ready Electrical is a paid upgrade selected in the configurator, and it includes LED lighting. order it with your build — adding it afterwards is possible but means a return visit and additional site work, so it costs more

What exactly is included in the price?

The headline price is the total price for the building, including delivery to your address and full professional installation. It does not include groundworks or a concrete base (priced separately: a guide price from your photos, then a firm quote after our contractor's site visit), or any electrical upgrades (those are selected and priced in the configurator). There are no hidden charges for standard sites.

Is a base included, and what does one cost?

Your building is installed on a level, load-bearing base of the correct size. Providing that base is your responsibility and it is not included in the price. You can prepare it yourself, use your own contractor, or have VeltHaven Foundation Management design and build it for you: a guide price from your photos, then a firm quote after our contractor's site visit. As a guide, Foundation Management, our fully managed service, costs from £5,495 to £8,695 for a garage base for cars and storage (125 mm slab) and from £5,095 to £6,295 for a garden-room base, depending on size, ground conditions, levels and access. Built by your own groundworker, a base typically costs £1,900–£8,100 for a steel garage and £2,500–£10,800 for an insulated garage, excluding VAT. Add VAT if your contractor is VAT-registered.

What counts as a standard site?

A standard site is a prepared, level base of the correct size, normal vehicle and pedestrian access for our delivery and installation team, and an electrical connection within approximately 15 metres of the building (if selecting electrical upgrades). Any site with restricted access, unusual ground conditions or a very long electrical run is non-standard.
