What fits

What fits in the 4×6 Single

A 4 m frontage is one opening and very little either side of it. The door gives a 350 cm (11′6″) clear width, so the car drives straight in and the working floor is the strip behind it rather than beside it. For a household that wants the car under cover and the mower, bikes and tools out of the house, that is the whole job.

Depth is 6 m on every size in our configurator, so choosing between sizes is a decision about frontage. At 24 m² this is the smallest garage you can design with us, and it is the one that goes where the others cannot — down the flank of a house, at the end of a drive that is already half full, on a plot with a boundary close on one side.

Before you settle on a spot, think about how the panels reach it: a 4×6 is the easiest size to deliver, but the lorry still has to reach the base with a long load on board. Access, not footprint, is what most often decides exactly where a small building ends up.

Who it suits

Is the 4×6 Single your size?

One car with room to open the doors, or a secure workshop for the tools, bikes and mower that have taken over the house. The 4 m width keeps it within a typical side-plot, and on the Standard height it sits under the permitted-development line beside a boundary with a rear-pitch roof.

Sized for real vehicles

Three height builds

Choose the entry height that fits how you'll use the garage. Planning guidance is provided in the configurator per size.

SUV

Total external height
268 cm (8′10″)
Clear door opening height
220 cm (7′3″)

Larger 4×4s and tall estates. Measure your vehicle against the clear door opening above.

SUV height can be fine further from a boundary — but check first. Close to a boundary, or with an apex roof anywhere on your plot, it's over the height limit. Send us your boundary distances and we'll flag what's likely to apply — your council has the final word.

VAN

Total external height
368 cm (12′1″)
Clear door opening height
300 cm (9′10″)

Vans, motorhomes, campers and commercial vehicles.

Over the permitted development height limits — a planning application is needed on any plot, with either roof. Why: a van-height door needs walls taller than the rules allow, even set back from a boundary and even with an apex roof that would normally buy more height.

Every height is priced live in the configurator — pick your size to see it.

What it costs

From £9,995 installed

Includes the building, mainland UK delivery, and installation on a standard site. The base is priced separately: a guide price from your photos, then a firm quote after our contractor's site visit. Your electrical connection is included with an electrical package (a paid extra) on a standard connection; otherwise it is priced from your site photos.

Your building is installed on a level, load-bearing base of the correct size. Providing that base is your responsibility and it is not included in the price. You can prepare it yourself, use your own contractor, or have VeltHaven Foundation Management design and build it for you: a guide price from your photos, then a firm quote after our contractor's site visit.

As a guide, Foundation Management, our fully managed service, costs from £5,495 to £8,695 for a garage base for cars and storage (125 mm slab) and from £5,095 to £6,295 for a garden-room base, depending on size, ground conditions, levels and access. A standard slab built by your own groundworker typically costs £1,900–£8,100 excluding VAT for our garage sizes. Add VAT if your contractor is VAT-registered.

For a 4×6, a standard slab built by yourself or your own groundworker typically costs £1,900–£3,600 excluding VAT.

Questions

Before you commit

How wide is the door opening on the 4×6 Single?

The 4×6 Single has one automatic sectional door with a 350 cm (11′6″) clear opening — the usable width a vehicle passes through, not the nominal panel size. It also has a 100 × 200 cm (39 × 79 in) side entrance door, and one window is included (PVC tilt window, 80 × 60 cm (31 × 24 in), double-glazed).

How much headroom does the 4×6 Single have at each height?

The 4×6 Single keeps its 350 cm (11′6″) door width at every height build. Standard: 248 cm (8′2″) external height with a 200 cm (6′7″) clear opening. SUV: 268 cm (8′10″) and 220 cm (7′3″). VAN: 368 cm (12′1″) and 300 cm (9′10″). SUV and VAN builds cost extra — the configurator shows the price as you choose.

Do I need planning permission for a steel garage?

It depends on which height build you choose, which roof, and where it sits on your plot. In England and Wales an outbuilding is normally permitted development if it is single-storey, sits behind the front of your house, and — within 2 m of a boundary — is no more than 2.5 m tall overall. Set further back, the limit is 3 m overall for a mono-pitch roof or 4 m for an apex roof, with eaves no higher than 2.5 m in either case. Our rear-pitch roof is a mono-pitch roof in those terms. Measured against that, the Standard build (248 cm (8′2″) externally) is normally within permitted development set back from a boundary with either roof, and with a rear-pitch roof close to a boundary as well. The SUV build (268 cm (8′10″) externally) is above the 2.5 m line close to a boundary; set further back a rear-pitch SUV is inside the 3 m overall cap, but its front eaves are above 2.5 m, so that one is worth confirming with your local planning authority — and an apex SUV is above the eaves limit wherever it sits. The VAN build (368 cm (12′1″) externally) is above every limit, so it needs a planning application on any plot. Permission is also more likely to be needed in a conservation area or on a listed building, or if previous extensions have already used up your permitted development allowance. Rules differ in Scotland and Northern Ireland, and permitted development does not apply to flats or maisonettes. Send us your boundary distances and we'll flag what's likely to apply — your council has the final word. Read our full planning guide →

What exactly is included in the price?

The headline price is the total price for the building, including delivery to your address and full professional installation. It does not include groundworks or a concrete base (priced separately: a guide price from your photos, then a firm quote after our contractor's site visit), or any electrical upgrades (those are selected and priced in the configurator). There are no hidden charges for standard sites.

What counts as a standard site?

A standard site is a prepared, level base of the correct size, normal vehicle and pedestrian access for our delivery and installation team, and an electrical connection within approximately 15 metres of the building (if selecting electrical upgrades). Any site with restricted access, unusual ground conditions or a very long electrical run is non-standard.

How long does it take from order to finished garage?

We deliver and install within 8 weeks of your full payment, and that includes manufacture: your building is made to order, which takes 4–6 weeks depending on specification. Once it is ready and your concrete base is in place, delivery and installation take a steel garage usually 1–2 days, an insulated garage or garden room 1–3 days, weather permitting. Your building goes up first. Our electrician then attends on a separate scheduled visit, and any climate, flooring, security or EV work is booked in after that — each on its own visit, arranged with you. We confirm your installation date once your deposit is paid and your site photos have been reviewed.

What is the VeltHaven 10-Year Structural Warranty?

Every steel garage includes a VeltHaven 10-Year Structural Warranty: 2 years full warranty + structural cover to year 10. This is self-backed by VeltHaven Ltd (Companies House 17261887). It does not affect your statutory rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015.

What are the internal dimensions?

Internal dimensions depend on the roof profile, height build and door layout you configure. Full dimensioned drawings are supplied with your order confirmation before anything is manufactured, and we confirm vehicle fit with you before you commit.

Building regulations are a separate question from planning, and the answer depends on the size of the building and where it sits on your plot. Our building regulations guide sets out which applies to yours.
