Metal Garages FAQ
What is a metal garage?
A metal garage is a steel-framed building — stronger and lower-maintenance than timber, faster to install than brick. VeltHaven builds two specifications: Steel Garages for secure, weather-tight storage and parking, and Insulated Garages, which add 100mm insulation for year-round use as a workshop, gym or home office. Do I need planning permission for a metal garage?
Usually not, for the Standard build — set back from a boundary it is normally permitted development under either roof. The SUV build is never automatically permitted development: sometimes it is straightforwardly outside PD, sometimes it is a question for your council, but it is not a case to build and hope. The VAN build needs an application on any plot. Conservation areas, listed buildings and used-up allowances change the answer. Read our full planning guide →
What is the difference between a Steel Garage and an Insulated Garage?
A Steel Garage is our non-insulated line — secure, weatherproof and good-looking. An Insulated Garage adds 100mm PIR insulated walls and roof, making it warm and dry year-round: suitable as a workshop, gym, home office or showroom garage as well as car storage. Both lines carry the same VeltHaven 10-Year Structural Warranty.
