Metal Garage Prices UK (2026): What All-In Really Costs

By the VeltHaven Team · Last updated: 1 November 2026

An installed, configurable VeltHaven metal garage costs £9,995–£27,990 for a steel garage and £23,950–£54,265 for an insulated one, including mainland UK delivery and installation; the base and any electrical connection are extra. Across the market as a whole, “metal garage” stretches from a few hundred pounds for a flat-pack tin shed up to a large insulated steel building — and most advertised prices sit somewhere incomplete in between: a headline figure that excludes the base, the door, delivery or installation. Here’s how the market really prices out in 2026, what the cheap end actually buys, and what a genuinely all-in figure looks like.

The three kinds of metal garage

Almost everything sold as a “metal garage” in the UK is one of three kinds:

  • Flat-pack kits. Thin galvanised sheet, self-assembly, no base, no real door, minimal warranty. Fine for a lawnmower; not a garage in any meaningful sense. This band is where “metal garage” horror stories come from.
  • Engineered steel garages, installed. A structural steel frame, profiled cladding, a proper sectional door, professional installation on an engineered base. This is where a metal garage becomes a genuine alternative to brick. VeltHaven’s configurable steel range starts at £9,995 fully installed, including the automated insulated sectional door.
  • Insulated steel garages. 100mm insulated panels, glazing options, a building you can heat and use — gym, workshop, studio. Ours start at £23,950 installed. The steel vs insulated comparison explains who should spend the difference.

Includes the building, mainland UK delivery, and installation on a standard site. The base is priced separately: a guide price from your photos, then a firm quote after our contractor's site visit. Your electrical connection is included with an electrical package (a paid extra) on a standard connection; otherwise it is priced from your site photos. Your building is installed on a level, load-bearing base of the correct size. Providing that base is your responsibility and it is not included in the price. You can prepare it yourself, use your own contractor, or have VeltHaven Foundation Management design and build it for you: a guide price from your photos, then a firm quote after our contractor's site visit. As a guide, Foundation Management, our fully managed service, costs from £5,095 to £6,295 for a garden-room base and from £5,495 to £8,695 for a garage base for cars and storage (125 mm slab), depending on size, ground conditions, levels and access. Built by your own groundworker, a base typically costs £1,900–£8,100 for a steel garage, £2,500–£10,800 for an insulated garage and £1,900–£5,600 for a garden room, excluding VAT. Add VAT if your contractor is VAT-registered.

Why advertised prices are hard to compare

Two metal garages advertised at the same price can end up far apart once really priced. Before comparing anything, ask what the figure includes:

  • The base. A concrete base for a single garage commonly costs thousands if quoted separately — and a steel building is only as good as what it’s anchored to. (See how we handle foundations.)
  • The door. Some suppliers price the shell and sell the door as an extra — on a garage. An insulated sectional door alone is a four-figure item.
  • Delivery and installation. “Supply only” means you’re project-managing trades yourself. Installed prices that exclude delivery are quietly regional.
  • VAT. Trade-facing suppliers habitually quote ex-VAT. Add 20% before comparing.

Our position is simpler: the price you see covers the building, the automated insulated door, delivery and installation, with the base quoted separately — and it’s shown live online as you configure, so there’s no quote to wait for and no surprise at the end.

If you would rather start from a building that is already designed, browse our ready designs, each sold at one price as shown.

What moves the price up or down

  1. Size. The single biggest factor. Whether you need a single or double roughly frames the budget band before anything else.
  2. Insulated or not. The step from steel to insulated is the step from “secure storage” to “usable room” — it’s the biggest single upgrade decision. (Full comparison.)
  3. Roof style and height. Apex, pent and lean-to options change steel content and appearance.
  4. Extras with their own value: EV charging, electrics, resin flooring — worth pricing as line items, not mysteries.

Metal garage price FAQs

How much does a single metal garage cost in the UK?

For an engineered, installed steel single garage with a proper door, prices vary by supplier and by what is included, so compare installed totals and check whether the base is in them. Our configurable range starts at £9,995 installed, and our ready designs from £5,995. Cheap flat-pack “single garages” are kit sheds — a different product.

How much is a double metal garage?

Steel doubles start at £12,995 as a Ready Design, or £15,995 if you design your own; insulated doubles start at £32,950, depending on size and spec. The exact answer for your size is the configurator — it prices your configuration live in about five minutes.

Are metal garages cheaper than brick?

Compare the published figures. A single brick garage typically costs £22,000–£30,000 (MyBuilder, updated August 2026), with insulation and electrics listed as additions to that build cost. Our steel garages start at £5,995 installed as a ready design, or £9,995 if you design your own, with the base extra. Compare the quotes like for like: what each includes (base, insulation, door, electrics) and how long each takes. More in steel-frame vs brick or concrete.

Are metal garages cheaper than wooden ones?

It depends on the specification, so compare like for like. Steel’s real advantage is afterwards: no treatment cycle, no board replacement. Full comparison in metal vs wooden garage.

Is a cheap metal garage kit ever the right buy?

If you need weatherproof storage for garden kit and nothing more, a kit does a job. If you’re storing a car, tools worth stealing, or anything you’d miss — the door, frame and installation are what you’re actually paying for in the next band up. Our guide to whether metal garages are any good covers how to tell the difference.

The short version

Metal garage prices only make sense once every figure is all-in. Realistically: flat-pack kits at the bottom, our steel garages from £5,995 installed, insulated garages from £23,950, base extra on both — and any comparison done on headline prices without the base, door, installation and VAT is a comparison of fictions.
